I am looking for suggestions to distinguish between "safra" and "colheita". Harvest is what seems most appropriate for both, but I would rather not repeat... here is the context:

"A safra é o momento mais esperado do ano, quando junta-se o grupo e une-se os esforços e a alegria para a colheita..."

harvest / crop picking

I would use "harvest" (for safra) and "crop picking" (for colheita). I think "harvest" is the event "as a whole" and "crop picking" is the actual act of picking the fruit and vegetable.

Grata!
agree Evans (X) : yes, just "harvest" for the overall event, I wouldn't say "harvesting time".
