French term

rivalise de douceur et de légèreté

French to English Marketing Cosmetics, Beauty luxury cosmetics / online store
Hello,

I'm translating website content for a producer of luxury cosmetics: descriptions of all the new products in their upcoming SPRING collection.

I'd appreciate your help with translating the below marketing slogan. The first part clearly refers to the return of Spring/nice weather. It's the second part which I'm struggling to come up with a meaningful and snappy English translation for.

Les beaux jours sont de retour, le maquillage de XXXX **rivalise de douceur et de légèreté.**

Thanks in advance for any ideas you have!

Warm regards.

@all If I may say, I'm surprised by the general approach of some answers

The asker only asked for help with the second part, (maybe cos of the 10 word limit), but you don't know what s/he has in the first part.

Otherwise, what do we have?

The nice weather is back and xxx rivals 'brighter and softer than spring (tones) ?

The nice weather is back and xxx rivals with fresh, bright tones

Ok, I'm sure that Sonia and Verginia were not suggesting these catchphrases but we can't understand what you are suggesting either as the first part is missing

Surely we have to take the catchphrase as a whole and also very much as Lorraine says and then demonstrates.

This is just my opinion to try and help

Regards to all

Ceci est de l'adaptation publicitaire davantage que de la traduction. Il faut donc adapter l'idée à la mentalité anglophone plutôt que de tenter une image à référencement francophone. Créativité requise :-)

with fresh, bright tones

Some ways of turning it:

- XXXX makeup reflects/hails/celebrates the return of warmer days with soft, light tones / fresh, bright tones/tones as fresh as they are bright.
- XXXX makeup celebrates the warmer months with soft, light tones / fresh, bright tones/ tones as fresh as they are bright.
- Spring is in the air with XXXX makeup’s soft, light tones / fresh, bright tones (be careful: some companies do not like “ ‘s ” attached to their names)
- The fresh, bright tones of XXXX makeup announce the return of the warmer months.
- XXXX makeup rings in spring with its fresh, bright tones.

Bright and tender springtime tones like no others

Merci Yolanda!
neutral Victoria Britten : It's nice in itself, but I feel the comparison is an important concept in the source

Thank you for your comment Victoria.
agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : I like this one as anything too literal (with "vie for" for example), comes across as aggressive, which is the last thing you need here. (I've put your "like no other(s)" in a corner of my brain for use one day, if you don't mind?).

Spring is in the air with a little help from xxx

Following on from my point in the discussion, here is my tentative suggestion. Some may well say it is far removed from the original but we do understand the expression 'Spring is in the air' to mean 'lighter, milder, brighter etc. weather.
And I prefer 'help' to 'rival' - 'with a little help' is also a common expression as in the famous John Lennon song
You have to admit that at least it does sound natural and like a catchphrase -ok you don't HAVE to admit it
