Discussion

Kathleen Misson (asker) Jul 22, 2009:
Hi Gary Thank you for your help. This is a beauty and personal grooming magazine for a particular brand of cosmetics. They also like made up words like matizar :-/
Gary Smith Lawson Jul 22, 2009:
Could you give context about the client? Is it a sales pitch or a medical document? :.) (I suspect with a word like "confort" it's not a research paper! ;.))

Yes, I think the whole sentence would read better as per my comment!

disagree liz askew : seems everybody is avoiding actually translating the phrase./And I disagree with using just "soothing" as this does not cover the meaning at all//I still disagree.

You've obviously misunderstood the sentence and/or not read my comment re the whole sentence.

That should be ANTIPRURITIC, without the 'S'.

Oil baths (film-forming oil versus emulsion oil bath, 2-phase oil bath)
Oil baths are often used particularly in the treatment of neurodermatitis. They reduce skin dryness and irritation, and alleviate itching. The lipid-replenishing properties of oil baths and their **anti-pruritic** effect are temperature-dependent and best at 32 degrees Celsius.

These include sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, chromium and iron. Magnesium lactate, present in Aloe Vera, inhibits histidine decarboxylase, thus blocking the formation of histamine from the amino acid histidine. Since histamine is liberated into the skin from mast cells in many allergic reactions, leading to intense itching and pain, this reaction may account for aloe's powerful ***antipruritic** effect.

neutral philgoddard : This sunds like copy intended for the general public, in which case I'm not sure people would understand this medical term.

Cosmetic companies often use words like this to make their product sound 'serious' :-) Note that they have also used the word 'epidermis', 'astringente' and 'matiza'.
agree liz askew : Late in the day, but at least it is CORRECT.

Thanks, Liz - I agree we should be translating what it says here and not inventing our own version.

Thanks very much for your help Liz much appreciated.
Hi Liz, help was not completely ignored at all but greatly appreciated. In my particular document I went for something more informal because it was a cosmetics magazine for general readers. But if someone happens to need something similar in the future then all this valuable info is here for them :-)
