Portuguese term

Arbelos

Portuguese to English Other Mathematics & Statistics
In geometry, an arbelos is a plane region bounded by a semicircle of diameter 1, connected to semicircles of diameters r and (1 − r), all oriented the same way and sharing a common baseline. Archimedes is believed to be the first mathematician to study its mathematical properties, as it appears in propositions four through eight of his Book of Lemmas. Arbelos literally means "shoemaker's knife" in Greek; it resembles the blade of a knife used by ancient cobblers.[1]

Arbelos Arbelos is definitely in the singular. It refers to the shaded area of a semicircle and it resembles the blade of a shoemaker's knife. Here is another good link: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Arbelos.html

arbelos vs arbelo I am unsure, with or without the "s"? I found the following references www.escolacooperativa.com.br/downloads/rmec02.doc, what do you think? I also think it should remain "arbelos" but it seems math teachers are using it without the "s" in Portuguese texts.
