Debut, Premiere, is what the media use. This is where one must put the technical lingo aside and do some copywriting: "inédito" simply means unpublished, unreleased, "new" or never seen before. And it also means "uncut" or original version. If a movie is shown for the first time on TV, it is making its debut on TV, and Rede Globo does say "inédito" na TV brasileira - it means it is premiering or new. If it is been screened for the first time in the theaters for the general public [box-office], it is making its debut in the commercial circuit - after a premiere or innaugural release to VIPs and the media only. I think it is quite simple, really. But an alternative would be "Eight films to premiere in the [commercial] theaters". Please, note that there are exhibitions which are not really for box-office but for the promotion of the arts, e.g. movie festivals.

And BTW, I would also purge the "in theaters" or "in cinemas", as well as "comercially" as suggested by Nick. These are all redundant terms, for a film cannot be screened in gas stations or supermarkets. It will be screened in a movie theater, and obviously commercially. I still vote for Andréa's initial suggestion as the best.

Verlow, This could generate ambiguity if the text mentions a "estréia" anywhere. The "debut" (noun) would be a perfect translation for "estréia", but "inédito" (adjective) should be translated with "unreleased" or something like it, IMO.

Many thanks! Both yours and Matthew's are great suggestions. I'm inclined to choose Matthew's though, as some of the films have been screened in other festivals but not released on the commercial circuit.
