agree Donna Sandin : Better as it's a well-known term in the US, and the idiomatic is "pot" I believe (say I, as a native of the New England states) ON the other hand, if they are nothing like "our" lobster pots and purpose of doc is technical, better use Klausin suggestion

manzuá (monofilament nylon trap)

I suggest leaving the term in in Pt, followed by a brief explanation about its meaning.

The main fishing gears used are relatively small wooden and monofilament nylon traps (0.5m X 0.75m) called "covo" or " manzuá " and gill nets are also being used since 1995. The lobster fishery in northeastern Brazil began in the mid 1950’s, in the state of Ceará, when fishing companies began buying catches from “Jangadeiros”, artisanal (small scale) fishers for industrial processing and export, mainly as frozen tails.

neutral Donna Sandin : explanation better as a footnote if it seems that the target audience really needs the detail.
