PERMEAR

Portuguese to English Other Business/Commerce (general)
Prezados,

Discussion

coolbrowne Nov 18, 2010:

Eis a divergência:
(to) be present in - papel passivo, mera presença
(to) serve as a guide to - papel ativo, influência aceita (ou reconhecida)

Portanto este uso de "permear" fica entre "(to) be present in" e "(to) serve as a guide to", sendo mais próximo daquele.

Obrigado

insufficient context Depending on the actual context, it could have different meanings to be translated. We don't even know the idea behind what's being said. Maybe some background info, a title, the subject or direction &/or the sentence before/after would help.

agree T o b i a s : "Serve as a guide to" could work. Of the 6 posted so far, that would be my pick.

transitive verb
1: to spread or diffuse through <a room permeated with tobacco smoke>

References ad infinitum, to support my choice of "spread through"
NOW IT'S UP TO THE ASKER TO DECIDE WHAT'S BEST FOR HIS/HER CONTEXT. Not for some schmuck to go around spreading DISAGREES like he's got nothing better to do and just criticize everyone's suggestion. I suppose that's his idea of entertainment on any given afternoon. Get a life!

Peer comment(s):

My friend, when going around spreading your "disagrees" I suggest you do it within the Rules of KudoZ. I will call attention to the Moderator. You are just making a statement and not backing up with any references, supporting evidence. Get down to earth!!
agree Douglas Bissell : spread through or spread throughout. And I agree that some people may be a tad too quite to disagree unless the idea os actually WRONG. Neutral would be much more diplomatic

Thanks very much for the support Douglas. Yes, NEUTRAL is much mor elegant than these nasty red DISAGREES. One should be more tactful in addressing our colleagues. Every ACTION gets a REACTION.

Percolate/Filter

Filter and percolate are synonyms of permeate. Not sure if either works, though.

This work is ongoing and should percolate through all R&D activities.
Example sentence:

"Bring the strategy into your weekly routines - this will allow your knowledge of the subject matter to deepen, and allow it percolate through your brain processes and become a part of you."
