Discussion

Peter Close May 19, 2016:
I am confident that the vast majority of Englishmen would have no difficulty in understanding my answer as I had written it and that if anyone did have any difficulty in understanding it, he would certainly understand the alternative version that I had provided in my note. I believe that my answer is appropriate and succinct. If Transphy feels that I am in any way uncertain about my answer, I am afraid that he is mistaken.
transphy May 19, 2016:
I am not saying that Peter's version is wrong. I am saying that, that is a literal translation which will not be understood by the recipients of the text. Even Peter did not seem to be sure, as he has 'variations'! Where has the big idea of 'giving the meaning' of text gone?!!

Although what I have written above is a correct translation of the Greek, it would probably read and sound better in English if you were to write it as, “Unified Property Ownership Tax Payment Details”.

Land and Property Itemized Settlement Payments

Why use the phrase 'Ενιαίου Φόρου', which refers to the System in Greece, in The USA, or The UK, or Australia etc, where they have a different System of Taxing Land and Property.
For example, in the UK, you pay Property Taxes to the Local Government (Council Taxes), whereas if you sell Land or Property you pay Land Taxes(Sale Tax) to Central Government. These payments are NOT 'unified' but paid separately. The Council Taxes are recurring taxes, whereas Land Taxes are transaction(Sale) Taxes. The Local Government Taxes, by default, are UNIFIED and therefore, are not referred to, or known as 'Unified Taxes'. But if you want to translate it in a literal form, so be it. However, people might ask you, 'what do you mean by 'Unified Taxes'!!! Some Countries call them Land Taxes , others call the Property Taxes.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Nick Lingris : So you mean that, when we write about the Greek parliament, we should translate it as "the Greek House of Representatives" for a US audience?

I would say it as those people who are meant to read it would understand it. Have you, in your time in the UK ever heard of 'Unified Council Tax'?
