Nevertheless, Pompeius succeeded in making Demetrius rather less obnoxious to other people by the way in which he calmly put up with his impertinence. It is said, for instance, that at entertainments, while Pompeius was waiting to receive his other guests, Demetrius was often to be seen already reclining at the table, perfectly at his ease and with the hood of his toga pulled down over his ears....

Pompey
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
This article refers to the General of the Roman republic. For other uses, see Pompeius. He had descendants also called Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus.
Pompey the Great /Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (Latin: CN·POMPEIVS·CN·F·SEX·N·MAGNVS¹), known in English as Pompey the Great (September 29, 106 BC – September 29, 48 BC) was a distinguished and ambitious Roman general and politician of the 1st century BC. Pompey distinguished himself as a talented military leader under the dictatorship of Lucius Cornelius Sulla. For his military exploits against the pirates in the Mediterranean Sea and in eastern Rome he earned the cognomen of Magnus or the Great. (Although, according to Plutarch's work on the subject, Pompey was awarded this title prior to those campaigns, during some of Sulla's "mopping-up" operations against the Marians.)

Pompey vs Pompeius [not for grading]
Ανοίγω τον Plutarch στη μετάφραση που ονομάζεται the Dryden translation (είχε σαν γενικό επιμελητή τον John Dryden και έγινε στα 1683-86) και ενώ όλοι σχεδόν οι Ρωμαίοι που τα ονόματά τους λήγουν σε -us διατηρούν τα -us τους, ο Αντώνιος είναι Antony και ο Πομπήιος Pompey.
Στη μετάφραση του The Lives of the Twelve Caesars του Σουητώνιου που κυκλοφόρησε το 1920 αποκαταστάθηκαν τα Pompeius αντί του Pompey και Marcus Antonius αντί του Mark Antony, αλλά δεν νομίζω να έχει γίνει κάτι τέτοιο στον Πλούταρχο γιατί ακόμα κυκλοφορούν μεταφράσεις βασισμένες στην Dryden translation.
