Discussion

Victoria Britten May 29, 2015:
@Asker Is this about pornography, race, slang... or all of the above? I see you have posted various other questions that clearly have pornographic connotations, but the list you give here just looks like a page from an ordinary slang dictionary. You say in reply to Tony that it's about French people and their origins, but I can't really make (for example) "baîllonnées" fit that context. (It would certainly have a place in (BDSM) porn, but with its classic dictionary definition, not slang at all.)
Tony has given the absolutely standard definition of "beuh", and the fact that "beur" also appears in the list precludes that particular confusion.
FYI, no, "beur" and "bougnoul" are not at all the same, though they (loosely) refer to the same people: "beur" is slang that just refers to geographical origin in the context of French immigration, whilst "bougnoul" is racist and deeply offensive.
Tony M May 28, 2015:
@ Asker It's no use saying "as I said in my other question", since people might not be following all your questions.

OK, so that already tells us a bit more... there is nothing significant about the association of these words, other than that they are in alphabetical order.
So if you have only a word list, what di the customer tell you it was for / in connection with? If they haven't told you, then you really owe it to yourself to ask that question, in order to try and at least narrow down the context a little bit...
Gad Kohenov (asker) May 28, 2015:
It's a list of words as I said in my other questio baîllonnées
beauf
beaufs
beu
beuh
beuje
beur
beurette
Jean-Claude Gouin May 28, 2015:
CONTEXT? I agree with Nikki ...
Georgie Scott May 28, 2015:
Arab then?
Tony M May 28, 2015:
@ Petitavoine No indeed! In the porno contexts where I've encountered it, it's been more a term of approbation ;-)
Jocelyne Cuenin May 28, 2015:
Beur / beurette n'est pas une insulte. Un peu vieilli, peut-être (date des années 80 environ).
Nikki Scott-Despaigne May 28, 2015:
Any chance of any context whatsoever? Is this from an audio source, or is the source written. If so, in either case actually, a word alone is pretty meaningless.

Well, if you mean 'beuh' in the sense of verlan for 'herbe' = cannabis?

I hope you're not referring to beur?

Ah, then hardly really 'pornographic'!

I suspect it is meant to be 'beur' (unless you also have that as well?), in which case I think it is verlan for 'Arabe' (as far as I have been able to ascertain empirically)

Beur is a colloquial term to designate French-born people whose parents or grandparents are immigrants from North Africa. It is also frequently applied to other Europeans with a North African origin, such as those in Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK.

Note from asker:
It is in a list of French people and their origin. Same as bougnoul?

Thanks, Juan! Oh yes, I overlooked that one. Is it still current? Takes me right back to the '60s ;-)
