French term
atèle hélitreuillable
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Ships, Sailing, Maritime
In the ship's dispensary I have a list of items including:
•1 emplacement pour rangement à la mer du brancard et atèle hélitreuillable
I'm wondering whether 'atèle' is a spelling mistake for 'attele' and in this case is it a 'harness'?

: There's a French word for harness - not attelle = splint as I understand.
OK, maybe misused but if it is a splint then it must withstand being lifted vertically - ouch!

This is what I noted above but the term attelle is often misused for harnais.

helicopter-rescue stretcher
* kind of sledge: splint seems too specific and dangerous for lifting vertically.

basket stretcher and air rescue gear
Back in 2005, I talked with the local SNSM to join the crew as a rescue diver. At the time I lived more than 10 minutes from the harbour. For me the idea of “attele” indicates – misnomer or not – that the piece of equipment, is rigid. You find all types of terms, all types of equipment. Your “attele” is very probably a “nacelle” or “coquille” affair. In SAR speak, this may be a “winch stretcher”, “basket stretcher”... There are also inflatable “matelas coquille” (“vacuum mattress”), which is probably not relevant here.
As yours is probably a rigid thing, I’d go with “basket stretcher”

SHELL Rescue basket stretcher :
The Spencer basket stretcher, Shell, has been studied to confront the most difficult of emergency situations. It is ideal for rescue operations in mines, at altitude and in water.
Thanks to its robust form, resistance and flexibility of use, it is indispensable anytime a reliable and safe stretcher is needed. A revolutionary technique has been used in its realization which ensures the uniform
thickness over the entire length of the stretcher.
The shell is made ou of high density polyethylene and is joined to an aluminium framework which consolidates its robustness.
The handles for transport, which are part of the structure itself, are placed along the entire perimeter, the grommets for the fixing of the spring catches of the harnessing, are in stainless steel.
Inside the shell a removable mattresses, applied with Velcro®, made out of closed cell EDPM, which makes it impermeable to both blood and water. The use of high density polyethylene for the shell guarantees, apart from being shatter-proof, an exceptional sanitization.
The Shell can contain a spinal board.
The use of high density polyethylene, pressed with this technology, gives a consistency to the thickness that is much higher then achieved before with other forms of pressing; the advantages are evident in the corners, curves and on the base, exactly where the other bodies prove to be more fragile. The body is resistant to damage and corrosion and has been joined to an aluminium framework to guarantee a demanding use and safe transportability in helicopters.
The tapered form allows it to contain all the Spencer spinal boards, thus avoiding any annoying movements of the board itself.

If an injured person needs to be moved or carried some distance across rough terrain, then a Rescue Basket is ideal in that it provides full body protection. It can be dragged, carried or lifted across muddy terrain without affecting the patient’s well-being. It can also be lifted horizontally or vertically, using ropes and a four-point lifting bridle, supplied as an accessory. As such, it’s a versatile solution both on a building site and in a mountain rescue.

In a case of suspected spinal injury, a head immobiliser is an essential piece of equipment that can be used with a variety of stretchers and splints. In this situation the standard Lifting Scoop is a useful stretcher. It can be positioned without lifting or rolling the patient. Inner cradles prevent any patient movement, reducing risk of further injury. Spinal boards also deliver the strength and rigidity for tough immobilisation and extraction tasks and are compatible with all standard head immobilisers.

"shell strecher" might be another option if the way your turn of phrase needs a separate ""stretcher and winch shell-type stretcher"
As yours is probably a rigid thing, I’d go with “basket stretcher”

helihoistable splint
As far as I know, "atèle" is (at least) a misspelling for "attelle" (actually, it refers to a variety of monkeys...).
I'd suggest "splint" for attelle, and "helihoisting" for hélitreuiller...
