French term

hôtel à projet

French to English Science Science (general) R&D, innovation
This seems to be a relatively new concept, and I'm not sure what the English equivalent is. Here is a French definition:

Concept novateur, ***l’hôtel à projet*** aura pour fonction d’accueillir de manière temporaire des équipes de recherche de niveau international ayant des expertises complémentaires aux 3 équipes fondatrices afin de permettre l’appropriation de nouvelles compétences par l’institut et de favoriser l’efficacité de la recherche.

TIA for your help!

Discussion

Travelin Ann Oct 16, 2009:
Skunkworks is a similar term I know in the US, but I am not sure it would apply in this case.
Emmanuelle Debon Oct 15, 2009:
There's a kind of pun in French with the consonance : "Appel" à projet / "Hôtel" à projet
Can you find an equivalent in English : "Call" for project / XXX for project??

Would this be appropriate? A number of British universities now use this term. See web reference.

agree philgoddard : Yes, and I don't think a literal translation works.

In my text, there is no explanation as to what a "hôtel à projet" is, so the English equivalent has to be self-explanatory. I think that "innovation centre" fits the bill perfectly. "
