The effect caused by landmines is that large areas of land cannot be farmed, mined for minerals, etc. and leads to population movements. As your text mentions, the devastation is long-term because until anti-mine personnel come in and do their job, people do not know where there are mines. "Economic dislocation" is a good term to describe it.
