French term

blocs de feux

French to English Other Other other
Description of a car; I think it must be either headlights or tailights (?), but considering that I don't have any other context related to these "blocs de feux" I can't figure out whether it's headlights or tailights.

"deux blocs de feux 5 fonctions"
Thanks everyone

Well, I'm going to disagree with CB on this one!

'feux' does indeed very often mean (rear) lights ("M'sieur, vous avez un feu grillé..."), and I'm pretty sure this is the word that is used for those 'all-in-one' multi-coloured plastic units that do tail lights / stop lights / fog lights / reversing lights / indicators --- and there's your 5 functions straight away!

A quick Google, linking \'bloc de feux\' with Peugeot threw up a few hits, including this one:

REMORQUES 1/4t.Les feux à l\'AR, ce sont des bloc de feux, comme ceux présents sur les Peugeot P4 (Feux stop, veilleuses, Black-out...). Circuit en 24volts. ...

jeep-m201.chez.tiscali.fr/remorque.htm

HOWEVER, it also revealed that the do talk about BOTH front AND rear \'blocs de feux\', so if you really don\'t know which it is, maybe it\'s both? However, I reckon thet 5-function bit makes it pretty sure it must be the rear ones.

If you really can\'t be sure, just say \'lighting unit\'!

headlight units

Off the to of my head, I'd say it's headlights.
a) 'cos "feux" tout court is usually headlights
b) 'cos there's 5 functions - probably side lights, dipped, full beam, indicators (if they're units) and, er, something else.
Taillights tend not to have that many options !
