accident scenarios
Discussion of possible accident scenarios in a PWR:
This phrase has come up twice now and whilst I have been assuming that it means "doubly contentious" or something along those lines, I thought I'd better check whether there was any underlying technical meaning which may have escaped me. It seems such a strange thing to say in any event, given that this is already in the list of highly improbable accidents = maybe that's why it's "doublement débattu"?
I'd appreciate any comments as ever.
Many thanks

double-ended break
Hi Claire, This is what I've got in my glossary. The context I used it in was a break in the reactor coolant system, but perhaps it could apply to the steam generator as well.
Note from asker:
Hi Anna - yes that would make sense; it's just come up again, this time in brackets after rupture complète |

Comment: "Many thanks Anna - both AFNOR and the big SUBE multilingual nuclear dictionary give double-ended break for rupture circonférentielle complète. I'm so glad I queried it!"

There are too many examples of it out there for it no to be technical.

The AFNOR dict. has "rupture circulaire/circonférentielle complète" as "double-ended severance", "rupture guillotine double" as "double-ended guillotine break".
Quite what that means I cannot imagine, given that any break will have two ends I would have thought.

: Just guessing, but could this be about an inner and outer tube being broken simultaneously?
