Bâte (orfèvrerie ):
Elément d'entourage en métal servant à sertir les pierres qui ornent les pièces d'orfèvrerie, comme les bijoux. On dit d'une pierre qu'elle est "montée en bâte", c'est à dire qu'elle est est montée dans un boîtier métallique individuel, lui-même soudé sur une platine de même métal.On parle aussi de "pierres en bâtes".
Seems both terms are used - batte being maybe more modern.
