calage chromatique

French to English Bus/Financial Media / Multimedia artwork
Hi, this is a type of publishing, touching up photos or something of that ilk. Help appreciated!

I'm afraid I don't have any context, the phrase is just calage chromatique 4 couleurs

Many thanks in advance,

Discussion

Linebyline (asker) Oct 3, 2011:
Hi, I have finally hit something that may provide context:

Les visuels POS sont d’abord envoyés à CompanyA, qui une fois calé en 4couleurs, envoie leurs fichiers à ZX pour le calage 3couleurs. MR X n’intervient pas dans le process pour les marques américaines.
Le calage chromatique peut prendre beaucoup de temps étant donné que les épreuves & parfois des CD sont envoyés par courrier entre X & Y

French term (edited): calage chromatique 4 couleurs

4-colour plating

I feel sure you must have more context to give us!

For a start, what is your overall document about? And 'calage' sounds like an activity, so is this about the person doing it, the stage in the production process, etc. etc.?

I think it's necessary to keep the 'chromatique 4 couleurs' together.

I suspect it may in fact be '4-colour registration', but only more context will help us to find out.

'calage' > 'plating' comes direct from Grand Dictionnaire, under 'imprimerie' — so I can't vouch for it personally!

Aha! Then in that case, in the light of the new context, what they seem to be talking about is the "4-colour separations" — or perhaps 'separation' for the name of the activity of producing them; though I must admit I'm more used to hearing it expressed in that way.

Color calibration

The aim of color calibration is to measure and/or adjust the color response of a device (input or output) to establish a known relationship to a standard color space. The device that is to be calibrated is sometimes known as calibration source; the color space that serves as a standard is sometimes known as calibration target. Color calibration is a requirement for all devices taking an active part of a color managed workflow.

Color calibration is used by many industries, such as tv production, gaming, photography, engineering, chemistry, medical and more. In order to calibrate a display correctly you need a colorimeter and software to correctly calibrate your monitor or television.
