sidearms, sharp-pointed weapons

sidearms is a generic term in the thesaurus which includes all weapons with a point or sharp edge as opposed to firearms. However sharp-pointed weapons may be closer to the original

thanks Bourth, although in Roget's, pistol comes under firearms not sidearms

arme à poing

Looks like a typo. Hand gun.

\"Arme à poing\" is, at least, a common expression.

\"Arme à pointe\" does get a few Googles, and, obviously, means a \"pointed weapon\" (dagger, sword), possibly specifically an \"arme d\'estoc\", i.e. a thrusting weapon, e.g a rapier or throwing knife as opposed to a sabre or hunting knife.

Unless this does refer specifically to pointed weapons rather then any form of blade, the usual expression would be \"arme blanche\".
