French term

balayage [outils-machines]

French to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Machine tools, grinding
This term is taken from the operating instructions for a machine for grinding in between watch lugs.

"Balayage" normally means scanning, but seems in this context to refer to some aspect of the grinding process. I have been unable to determine what part.

These are the 2 main examples of its use in the text (the others all being in lists):

"Balayage angulaire sur 2 meules
Ce cycle permet de meuler un angle en balayant avec 2 meules simultanément."

"Balayage sur 1 meule
Ce cycle permet de meuler un angle sur la carrure"

Something else I'd considered. Thanks for the suggestion. That's made me feel more confident with it.
pooja_chic Jul 23, 2012:
Yes Claude, even I suggest the same, I was searching and posting and realised that you suggested the same
claude-andrew Jul 23, 2012:
Suggestion I've used sweep / sweeping in this context.

functioning

I remember using this word for functioning of windscreen wipers on cars. It meant purely "functioning", and nothing else. I think it also fits the context here. Best
Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : no good in this case

disagree B D Finch : Translation as "functioning" was wrong for the windscreen wipers too!
