Direct members? I don't really get the nuance here.

Hey Charlie, Yes, very sure, the countries on the world map are shaded in (two types of shade, with the second category of members predominantly being countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific), and there's no mention of other types of members.

So... ...maybe adhésion directe means that the countries are members of the main organisation (the umbrella organisation) but that there is no local branch in those countries.

The members are countries. The international not-for-profit organisation has regional branches in over 100 countries.

Could we have a bit more context Conor?e.g. Is XXXXXXX the same in both phrases and is it the name of the organisation? Is there a possiblilty for countries to be members as part of another grouping ?

Ok, another punt, on similar lines :-)

If you are in a country that is a member, you join this crew through that country's membership.

If you are in a country that does not have membership, then you have to join the crew directly, if you want to join.

all of which is simply an explanation of the meaning behind what will thus end up being, the way I see it, a fairly literal translation of what the text says.

individual membership

I feel the key matter here is the difference between joining an organization through being a member of something else, or making a direct (personal, individual...) application. What is your opinion about this issue? Let me know in any case,
