When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

I think that they mean that Charlemagne's education was just like Roman Emperor D'Occident.

: I think you have misunderstood the sentence. Not surprisingly, as we do not have the complete sentence in the original. But I am pretty sure that the 'a tous les effets' refers to Theodoric the all-but-in-name emperor, not to Charlemagnes's education.

Thanks! .I don't think, though, that my understanding of what "à tous les effets" means in general is wrong. It's just that it may not be referring to his "education". More context would solve the problem.
