French term

Besogner

French to English Art/Literary History Medieval speech
Non-believer speaking to Cathar perfectus :

"On est pas fait du même terreau. Pour comprendre ces choses [i.e. the material pleasures of the world], il faut avoir la panse bien pleine, aimer à besogner les femelles..."
"F***" seems a bit too much; thought perhaps of "riding" but not blown away with that. As it's slang, have to be careful about anachronistic use... Any bawdy imaginations out there?

neutral Bourth (X) : Good as translation of "culbuter" etc.. Translates the concept but not necessarily the word used.

that's why I prefer serving which would be a fairly Shakespearian tongue-in-cheek equivalent :-)

work the women

"besogne" simply means "work", as in "faire la sale besogne", do someone's dirty work.

And "like working the women" would be clear in context, I should think. Nothing to do with the "masses laborieuses", or even with the "travail" that might come nine months later.

"work the women over" might be even clearer at first sight.

Maybe you could even replace "women" with "jezebels", "hussies", or some such.
