French term

DME

French to English Other Geography Markets
Pie charts indicating prospective markets for a new model of car.

The main chart shows percentages for the main markets: France, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, M5, Other EU16 countries and "Others".

The "Others" category (shown in the second chart) includes "AMLAT Hors DME", Rest of EU27, "Chine VM" and "Reste VM hors E27 AL CH RUS".

I presume that AMLAT is Amérique Latine but haven't a clue what DME might mean.

Any pointers most appreciated.

Bourth (X) Nov 24, 2008:
Biofuel I know you say your car is a diesel hybrid, but given that Brazil is probably the world's greatest consumer of DME fueled cars and the French manufacturers make special models for that market, I feel dimethyl ether (or is it ester?) is a strong contender: to get a representative picture of sales, they would have to separate out Brazil. It is also VERY possible that all of these are "standard" statistical categories they will use for any car powered by any fuel.

Sorry. As I suspected, I've not had any luck in getting info from the end customer ("she doesn't know what it means" is the answer I got from my agency contact). Ho hum.
AMLAT is indeed Amérique Latine, as is AL.
CH is China (not Switzerland).
David Goward (asker) Nov 23, 2008:
This new model of car is actually a diesel hybrid.

Thanks, Emma. Point taken and I apologise to Drmanu49 for my sharp response.
I'll try and get some info from the end customer but past experience tells me that this is unlikely to be forthcoming :-(
Emma Paulay Nov 23, 2008:
Geography or not? Hi David,
I'm not sure the abbreviations all refer to countries. Take a pie-chart for a european-wide chain of supermarkets for example. You could have a list of countries and then FRANCE (HC) . The HC would mean Hors Carburant to show the reader that petrol station sales have been deducted from the revenue of the supermarkets in France because the supermarkets in the other countries don't have petrol stations. Just an example, but I'm sure you see what I mean. So here, Dr Manu may well be right.

DME also stands for Distance Measuring Equipment, Decision Making Exercises, Dubai, Mercantile Exchange and other completely irrelevant objects and entities. Please read the context.
I realise that you are only trying to help and I apologise for being abrupt. I feel, though, that you are guessing, a fact that is not reflected in your CL.
