French term

ancien interne médaille d'or

French to English Medical General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters orthopedic surgery
this in the list of credentials of a doctor in France specialising in orthopedic and spinal surgery, as part of his headed notepaper. I'm wondering what it means and if I should translate it and if so, how I should translate it.

agree Chris Hall : Sounds plausible to me.

Thanks Chris!
neutral Drmanu49 : No, former is not right (even in French) since this is a title you keep That is why I suggested in to give the year ref. And it is this specifi award which is important. Giving the year is a better option IMO.

sorry, but former here refers to former intern and not to the award
agree writeaway : don't be misled. it's a former winner of the award. it's standard English and had nothing to with whether or not he/she held on to the physical award.

You are surely right. Thanks!

Gold Medal Grant/Scholarship Intern in...

Peer comment(s):

neutral writeaway : ancien is missing in the equation. good refs though/he's not this year's winner so he's a former winner. That means he won it in the past. Like former Olympic Gold medal winners. They also keep their awards. don't agree with your reasoning.

My reasoning is that it is much easier to say Gold Medal in + year.
58 mins
Of course Lionel, thanks.
neutral mimi 254 : former is missing in your translation - he is a former intern who received the gold medal

That is exactly why I suggested in (+ date), since the medal remains a permanent award
