I have 'démarreur progressif' in my current document for 'softstarter', this description makes it sound like something more specific... though the end result is probably going to be the same!

I've never heard of a "limiteur d'ampérage" but I understand it to mean the same as a "limiteur de courant". I'm not sure if my understanding is correct though, hence the medium confidence.

: Not strictly technically accurate: we must keep the 'starter' bit, and when starting motors, it's not quite the same 'inrush' current as for other components like, say, transformers or light-bulbs! / I'm not guessing or imagining I speak from experience.
