"6-7-3 CLOISONS
- Epaisseur courante : 5 cm (si hauteur sup à 260 : cloison 7cm)
- Entre cuisine et chambre : 5 cm
- Gaines avec 1 ou 2 faces donnant sur une
pièce principale ou la cuisine : 7 cm
- Gaines avec 3 faces donnant sur une pièce
principale : 10 cm
6-7-4 GAINES PALIERES (à confirmer par BE Fluides)
* Largeur :
- Eau Froide : 40 cm souhaitable
- Services Généraux : 50 cm
- PTT : 40 cm
- EDF : 73 cm (les gaines EDF doivent se plomber toute hauteur).
* Profondeur gaines palières : 30 cm + 5 cm d’épaisseur de porte soit 35 cm.
* Placard EDF : 60 cm intérieur sauf si surface logement < 40 m² (auquel cas 45 cm). Cloisons de 7 cm tout autour. Position impérative : dans l’entrée."
“Gaine “ probably signifies some kind of “duct” but what does “gaines avec 1 ou 2 faces donnant sur” mean in the context of partition walls? Are “faces” ventilation outlets/inlets or something similar?

Depending on context, gaine can be variously translated as casing, duct, jacket, lining, sheath, sheathing, sleeve, trunking, conduit... (See Serge Eric Bon, Dictionnaire du génie civil, de l'architecture & de la construction (Paris, 2008). In this instance, for service enclosures on the landings of a residential building duct would be the most appropriate term: small ducts for individual service runs within partitions would generally be described as trunking.
