Coaching mantra?

English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation
Hello everyone,

Is there a word to describe the rhythmical slogan-like pep talk that sports coaches have their teams repeat to boost their morale, say, before an important game?

Thanks!

Pregame pep talk

Pep Talk
Keith Gilbertson fires up the troops before heading out of the tunnel.

Whether it includes the "mantra...we're number one," or a prayer, or an appeal to the team's hard work...it's all part of the pregame pep talk.

agree Laura Terrett : I would use pep talk in this context

coaching chants/chanting

I've heard chanting used in various contexts, including sports but I am not sure if there is a set way this is actually called

Another option is \"affirmations,\" which are mantras or phrases we say repeatedly to affirm a belief or thought or a concept/idea that we want to believe in and that will give us more self-confidence and help individuals reach self-actualization and team members reach a collective goal

psych-up

A psych-up is a slightly broader term than the pep-talk specifically, but it may or may not be helpful depending on context

Psych up strategies that are found in the research tend to be oriented around five approaches. These include the use of imagery, self-efficacy statements or self-talk, attentional focus, preparatory arousal or emotive imagery, and relaxation.

... Our head coach gave a great psych-up speech the first night after dinner ... I think he played football in college. I think maybe he’s still playing. ...

(coach's) mantra

I don't see why you should get away from mantra if you're talking about 'rhythmical' and 'slogan-like'.

This one is from the Observer:
Everyone has his own approach to taking it or dishing it out. Back in New Zealand, my coach's mantra was: 'Take the smack in the mouth, put your hands in your pockets, and take the three points.'
Or:
Carr's daughter had given him a book, The Precious Present, which stresses living in the present, not ruminating over the past or fretting about the future. It became the new coach's mantra.
