Pluta de salvare are o constructie de forma unui con, inchis complet. Dar, pentru a asigura descoperirea eventualelor ajutoare, pluta este prevazuta cu un manson elastic prin care observatorul iese cu jumatate din corp in afara plutei, fara ca apa sa poata intra in pluta pe langa el.
