I was thinking of translating Roman characters with "caratteri tondi", but am not sure now...

agree gianfranco : sì, i romani avevano solo lettere maiuscole... ma ora per caratteri latini si intendono tutti i caratteri dell'alfabeto standard [A-Z] ma anche [a-z] senza diacritici
