I'm sure it'll be fun reading Hammann's book again after having read "Søren og Mette", you'll be thrilled about the subtle undertones. It's so typical "Søren og Mette" reading "Søren har penge, og Mette har penge. Søren har en bil, og Mette har en bil"!

Daneskov's book is not be translated as far as I know - definitely not by me at any rate. I was reading it and I was curious about the reference to Søren and Mette.

Anyway, I am off to KH tomorrow and I think I will try and find the child's version of Søren og Mette and read it! I ought to learn more about the Danish culture:) They do say that doing another language is to do with culture as much as "speaking, writing osv). When I have done that I will then re-read Hamman's book. Hope you lot have read it by the way:)

Well, my favourite part of Kirsten Hammann's book is:
"Se, Sørens pung. Der er mange penge i. Søren har penge, og Mette har penge. Se, Søren har en bil, og Mette har en bil. Den er en Ford Mon.deo lige.som po.li.ti.bilerne, men den er rød"
(can't resist that either)

If I had known about the children's version of Søren and Mette, I would have appreciated the biting wit in Harmman's version:)

"Søren og Mette skal have kakao. Søren skal have kakao, og Mette skal have kakao. De skal have kakao nu." Sorry, but I just had to write this. It is my favourite part from the series. We used the books back in the early eighties. Also a good read :).

Thanks for your answer, Lingua Danica That is very intersting and makes a lot of sense. I was also wondering whether the use of Søren and Mette in that context had anything to do with Kirsten Hammann's book called "Fra smørhullet", now I see it is probably the other way round. Kirsten Hamman probably used characters from a children's book to emphasize certain points. It is quite a good read!
