English term

in big ways and little ways

English to French Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Bonjour à tous,

Un magazine spécialisé publie une interview d'un professeur d'ingénierie des systèmes :

"What about the wireless chip market?
If you look at carrier sales, sales of frequency bands, the big push toward 60 GHz, we’re going to see more and more wireless connectivity. So wireless is appearing in big ways and little ways. Little ways like sensors in your tires to monitor tire pressure, or little wireless sensors in a field of crops that will tell you when the plants need watering."

"Qu’en est-il du marché des puces sans fil ? À en juger par les ventes des opérateurs, les ventes des bandes de fréquence, le sans fil poussé à 60 GHz, la connectivité sans fil est de plus en plus présente."

Comment traduiriez-vous ce "appearing in big ways and little ways" ici ?
"Par la grande et la petite porte" ?

Merci

Yes, I think you must be right... ...after all. Like you, I can't really see the logic otherwise.
Willa95 (asker) Aug 12, 2013:
Je suis d'accord avec vous. Hélas pas plus de contexte à vous donner sur ce terme. Reste que "les ventes de porteuses" me paraît très bizarre http://www.microsoft.com/Language/fr-fr/Search.aspx
Tony M Aug 12, 2013:
Hard to say without more context... But I suspect it is carrier in the sense of an 'RF carrier', so porteuse (?); however, I would feel happier to know more about the wider context, since it is hard to see why they would differentiate between specific carrier frequencies and whole bands of frequencies; so there may be more to this than meets the eye — and I don't know if 'carrier' has some other jargon meaning in this specific context.
Willa95 (asker) Aug 12, 2013:
Que proposeriez-vous pour "carrier" ? J'ai effectivement hésité...
Tony M Aug 12, 2013:
Watch out! I'm not sure that 'carrier' sales actually means 'operators' here; and also, note that it is not the sans fil per se that is 'poussé' vers 60 GHz, but rather, the drive (almost 'ruée'!) to get there. I'm not sure your draft translation makes this as clear as the source text...

"Apple’s iPhone accounted for 21 percent of smartphone sales on T-Mobile this last quarter—not the largest portion, but a healthy number that helped the carrier’s sales grow. To supplement that growth, T-Mobile CEO John Legere said he wants to expand the carrier’s relationship with Apple and carry more of its products. Legere stopped short of saying what products he’s referring to. Perhaps the upcoming iPhone 5C?"
