This text is for an expert medical witness' report on a patient.
The patient "sufrio 5 impactos de bala por arma de fuego al salir de una tienda en los EE.UU."
The translated version of this report says: "suffered 5 bullet impacts from a firearm when leaving a store". This sounds very heavy English to me, but I cannot think of the correct way to say it... 5 gunshot wounds.. would imply something slightly different, I think..
Could one say "was shot 5 times when leaving a store"?

@eski With all due respect: "firearm bullet wounds" = 3 hits on Google, 1 on Bing.

As far as who the points go to, I am waiting 24 hours to assess all suggestions, but yes, I agree that most all of the suggestions will work. I just had not heard the expression 'impacto de bala" as meaning a gunshot or bullet wound, hence the question. But thanks a lot, everyone, for clarifying that!

@Sandro I don't disagree with "bullet wounds", I disagree with your translation suggestion. I wouldn't have disagreed had you not added your suggestion. I'm just saying that if the person who asked were to use the suggestion, it would look awkward in the translation, no offense.

Your point is well taken. However, the terminological question is "impactos de bala" and my answer is "bullet wounds." The rest is context. Are you disagreeing with the translated term or the translated context?

Me parece que eso es suficiente. Si dices "was shot 5 times", no queda claro si las 5 balas le dieron o no.

I have to say I prefer the poster's "gunshot wounds" as it fits better into the sentence because you can drop the "por arma de fuego" after that, i.e. "...suffered five gunshot wounds while leaving a store in the United States."
