Translators without Borders (TWB) has established its annual Access to Knowledge Awards to honor six individuals or organizations who exemplify the mission to translate for humanity.

You will find the whole report in TwB’s press release but I would like to focus on two of these awards:
The Excellence Award, given to “an individual who has gone above and beyond the call-of-duty in helping Translators without Borders meet its mission”, was awarded to ProZ.com founder and president Henry Dotterer.
This is an acknowledgement to the support provided by Henry to TwB’s mission by powering and manning the platform where the action happens (the Translators without Borders Translation Workspace), as an advisor to Translators without Borders board and as a donor.
The Right to Knowledge Award, given to “an individual (or company contributor) who has made a difference through his or her ongoing commitment to translation of humanitarian information”, was awarded to certified PRO member Ildikó Santana
Ildikó is the language lead for Hungarian in the Wikipedia project. She has donated over 50,000 words and, because of her broad contributions and proactive character, was appointed as day-to-day coordinator for all mainstream languages in the Wikipedia project.
Honorable Mentions were also awarded to:
The Content Rules editors, creators of critical ‘translations’ into simplified English, especially for our Wikipedia project and HEAT healthcare project.
ProZ.com member boulderwords, TwB's top translator, who contributed over 120K words since January 2011.
Certified PRO member Ashutosh Mitra, TwB's top non-European translator, with over 50K words contributed, and leader of the Wikipedia project into Hindi.
I would like to quote my friend Lori Thicke, president and founder of Translators without Borders:
"We have had an exceptional year of progress and success. Reaching 7 million words translated through our workspace, opening our first training center in Nairobi, working with Wikipedia on critical health information—none of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors, the dedication of our volunteers, and the commitment of our non-profit partners.”
Congratulations to the awards winners, but also congratulations and a heartfelt “thank you” to the many, many volunteers whose generosity and professionalism made all this possible. When you see so much selfless commitment to humanitarian causes you realize that a better world is indeed possible.
