Promoting Solutions for the Uninsured in the Hispanic Community in Dallas/Ft. Worth
PFIZER HELPFUL ANSWERS DONATES $40,000 TO DALLAS CONCILIO TO LAUNCH COMMUNITY HEALTH OUTREACH INITIATIVE
WHO: Rene Martinez, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dallas Concilio
Florencia Velasco-Fortner, Chief Executive Officer, Dallas Concilio
Gary Pelletier, Director, Pfizer Helpful Answers
WHAT: Launch of the Dallas Concilio Promotores Initiative – a Community Health Outreach and Education campaign to identify and apply resources that can help uninsured Hispanics from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area gain access to the health care services they need. Pfizer Helpful Answers will present a check in the amount of $40,000 to the Dallas Concilio to kick off this community health initiative
WHEN: Wednesday, November 29th, 2006 – 11:30 AM (program to begin promptly at 12:00PM)
WHERE: Monica’s Aca Y Alla Restaurant, 2914 Main St., Deep Ellum - Dallas, TX 75226
Tel: 214.748.7140
WHY: According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the country – nearly one out of every four Texans (24.2%) is uninsured, about 5.5 million people. More than half of Texas' uninsured population is Hispanic. Pfizer Helpful Answers, a family of programs that helps people without prescription coverage save on many Pfizer medicines, no matter their age or income, is partnering with the Dallas Concilio to launch a dedicated effort through the execution of a “promotores” (community health worker) program to help uninsured Hispanics in Dallas/Ft. Worth gain access to needed health care. Promotores, community health care workers that are typically recruited from the community they are trained to serve, play a critical role in promoting community-based health education and prevention. By providing culturally sensitive services, they establish trust in the community and act as a bridge between health care institutions, professional providers and community residents in need of health care services. This is the first program of its kind to be supported by Pfizer Helpful Answers, which helped more than 310,000 uninsured people in Texas receive over $159 million worth of free or low cost medicines in 2005.
Members of the media are invited to join The Dallas Concilio and Pfizer Helpful Answers for the kick-off of this partnership and to learn more about the Promotores Initiative. To learn more about Pfizer Helpful Answers, please visit www.
