El estudio de la historia del arte es la disciplina académica cuyo objeto son las obras de arte en su desarrollo histórico y contexto estilístico (género, diseño, formato y apariencia),1 y los artistas en su contexto cultural y social.2 Mediante diversos métodos de estudio, analiza fundamentalmente las artes visuales (pintura, escultura yarquitectura), y menos frecuentemente también otras bellas artes(música, danza, literatura), artes industriales y oficios artísticos (orfebrería, mobiliario, historia del vestido, etc.).
En una definición amplia, los estudios de historia del arte incluyen lacrítica de arte (aplicada al aprecio contemporáneo de las producciones de arte implicadas en el mercado de arte y en las exhibiciones artísticas -museística, galerismo, comisariado artístico deexposiciones, ferias, espacios, o instalaciones artísticas-) y la teoría del arte (expresión de la estética y de su evolución histórica -historia de la estética-); de un modo restringido, se identifican con la historiografía del arte o de la historia del arte, es decir, con la rama de lahistoriografía que se ocupa de la producción historiográfica de loshistoriadores del arte, científicos cuya ciencia es la historia del arte, una ciencia social derivada de la propia historia.3
Ernst Gombrich observó que el campo de la historia del arte se parece a la Galia de César, dividida en tres partes habitadas por tribus diferentes, aunque no necesariamente hostiles: los "connoisseurs" [conocedores, aficionados], los críticos y los historiadores de arte académicos.4
El imposible deslindamiento de estos campos, y la estrecha vinculación entre intereses económicos, modas intelectuales y juicios estéticos dependientes del gusto artístico, hacen que el problema de laobjetividad sea mucho más agudo en los estudios de historia del arte que en otros campos de la historiografía o de las ciencias sociales, siendo éstas ya de por sí más subjetivas que las ciencias físico-naturales. El lenguaje utilizado en parte de la producción literaria que trata sobre arte, en ocasiones tiende a descuidar el rigor formal y la precisión metodológica propia de los textos científicos, en beneficio de la propia calidad estética de lo escrito, o cae en vicios como la hipérbole (ponderación exagerada de las cualidades o búsqueda de parangones, similitudes y relaciones improbables) y la mistificación (ocultamiento, falseamiento o incluso invención de datos).5

The study of art history is the academic discipline whose object of study is works of art in their historical development and stylistic context (genre, design, format and appearance), and artists in their cultural and social context. Through diverse methods of study, it analyzes fundamentally the visual arts (painting, sculpture, and architecture) and also less frequently other fine arts (music, dance, literature), industrial arts and trade arts (metalworking, furnishings, history of clothing, etc.).
Broadly defined, the studies of art history include art criticism, (applied to the contemporary appreciation of the productions of art entailed in the art market and in art exhibitions -- museums, galleries, artistic commission of exhibitions, fairs, spaces, or artistic installations) and art theory (expression of the aesthetic and of its historic evolution - history of the aesthetic); in a restrained definition, they are identified with the historiography of art and the history of art; that is to say, with the branch of historiography that occupies itself with the historiographic production of art historians, scientists whose science is the history of art, a social science derived from history.
Ernst Gombrich observed that the field of art history is similar to the Gaul of Cesar, divided in three parts inhabited by three different, although not necessarily hostile, tribes: the "connoisseurs" (aficionados), the academic critics, and the art historians.
The impossible demarcation of these fields, and the narrow link between economic interests, intellectual trends and aesthetic judgments dependent on artistic taste, make it so that the problem of objectivity is much more acute in art history studies than in other fields of historiography or of the social sciences, these already being by their nature more subjective than the physical and natural sciences. The terminology used in parts of the body of literature dealing with arts on occasions tends to forgo the formal rigor and the methodological precision which is a feature of scientific texts, in interest of the the individual aesthetic quality of what is written, or else falls into vices such as the hyperbole (exaggerated modifiers of qualities or a search for improbable comparisons, similarities, and relationships) and mystification (concealment, falsification or even invention of data).

Aguena Mondesí llegó desesperada a la sala de urgencias de un hospital en Santo Domingo, abarrotada por cientos de heridos en el devastador sismo que sacudió Haití, buscando noticias de sus familiares, presuntamente ingresados hace horas en ese centro asistencial.
“He perdido el rastro de 14 parientes, incluida mi madre, Dasina. No sé nada de ninguno de ellos, no aguanto más y me la paso llorando”, confiesa esta joven haitiana que vive ilegalmente en República Dominicana.
“Me contaron que la casa de mi familia quedó inclinada y que en sus destrozos no se veía ningún cadáver o herido”, agrega.
Mientras Aguena continúa su búsqueda, entra a la sala un paciente, Nandez Emil, aún impactado por haber sobrevivido al sismo. Según cuenta una pared le cayó encima y quedó atrapado 48 horas. Unos familiares lograron rescatarlo y llevarlo hasta República Dominicana días después.
“No sabía qué hacer, pensé que iba a morir”, balbucea desde la colchoneta donde yace, esperando su turno.
Por los pasillos se puede ver a Marilin Gerard, también paciente, recorriendo cama por cama. No es médico, pero ha sido una bendición para muchos que no pueden comunicarse por no hablar español. Desde que empezaron a llegar los primeros pacientes ha servido de intérprete en francés y creole.

Un quejido retumba entre las camillas copadas por los cientos de haitianos que llegan diariamente a los hospitales dominicanos, la mayoría con fracturas en piernas y brazos pero también en zonas más delicadas, como el cráneo.
“Lo que más me ha marcado es que tuve que, personalmente, amputar el miembro inferior derecho de una niña de dos años que llegó al hospital sin familia”, narra afectado a la prensa uno de los médicos de este centro asistencial.
Al igual que en Haití, aquí las amputaciones se han vuelto una rutina, explica el galeno, que recuerda que en una noche tuvieron que hacer unas 40 por la gravedad de las heridas. “Por lo menos aquí las estamos haciendo con anestesia y conservando la dignidad del paciente”, se consuela.

Aguena Mondesí arrived desperate to the emergency room of a Santo Domingo hospital, packed with hundreds wounded in the devastating quake that shook Haiti, looking for news of her relatives who were presumably admitted hours ago to the assistance center.
"I’ve lost track of 14 family members, including my mother, Dasina. I don’t know anything about any of them, I can’t take it any more and I’ve passed my time crying", confessed the young Haitian who resides illegally in the Dominican Republic.
"They told me that my family’s house was partially collapsed and that in the wreckage no bodies or injured were seen", she added.
While Arguena continued her search, a patient, Nandez Emil, entered the waiting room, still affected from having survived the quake. According to his account, a wall fell on top of him and he was trapped for 48 hours. Several family members managed to rescue him and bring him to the Dominican Republic a few days later.
"I didn’t know what to do, I thought I was going to die", he stammers from the mattress where he lies, waiting his turn.
In the corridors can be seen Marilin Garard, also a patient, moving from bed to bed. He is not a doctor, but he has been a blessing for many who are unable to communicate because they do not speak Spanish. Since the first patients began to arrive he has served as an interpreter in French and Creole.

"What has marked me most is that I had to, personally, amputate the right lower limb of a two year old girl who arrived to the hospital with no family", one of the doctors at the assistance center narrates affectedly to the press.
As in Haiti, amputations here have become a routine, explains the medic, who recalls that in a single night they had to perform around 40 due to the severity of the injuries. "At least here we are doing them with anestesia and conserving the dignity of the patient", he says as consolation.

El proyecto “Promoviendo los derechos de las poblaciones indígenas en la gestión de los recursos naturales de la Amazonía en Bolivia, Ecuador y Perú”, en su forma corta “Pueblos Indígenas Amazónicos Regional” (PIAR), es fruto de un convenio entre CARE y la Unión Europea. Inició sus labores en enero del 2010, considerando tres países de intervención: (i) departamento de Pando en Bolivia, (ii) provincias de Sucumbíos y Morona Santiago en Ecuador; y, (iii) departamentos de Amazonas y San Martín en Perú.
El objetivo General de esta iniciativa es: “Contribuir al ejercicio pleno de los derechos de los pueblos indígenas en la gestión de los recursos naturales y el desarrollo sostenible de la Región Amazónica (de Bolivia, Ecuador y Perú), mediante una mayor y mejor participación democrática”.
El objetivo Específico del proyecto que enmarca esta consultoría es: “Fortalecer la participación e influencia de organizaciones indígenas amazónicas en procesos de toma de decisiones sobre políticas públicas relativas a la gestión de los recursos naturales a nivel local, nacional y regional.”
En Ecuador la acción del proyecto se la realiza en asocio con el Comité de Derechos Humanos de Shushufindi (CDHS); y beneficia directamente a las siguientes organizaciones de pueblos y nacionalidades indígenas de la amazonía ecuatoriana:
• Pueblo Shuar de la provincia de Morona Santiago, organizado en la Federación Interprovincial de Centros Shuar (FICSH).
• Pueblo Kichwa de la provincia de Sucumbíos, agrupado en la Federación de Organizaciones de la Nacionalidad Kichwa de Sucumbíos, Ecuador (FONAKISE).
• Nacionalidad Cofán del Ecuador, en Sucumbíos, en la federación Indígena de la Nacionalidad Cofán del Ecuador (FEINCE).
Los resultados esperados son los siguientes:
• RE1: Capacidades fortalecidas en las organizaciones indígenas de cada país para participar en la toma de decisiones y ejercer control sobre la gestión de los recursos naturales en los territorios que habitan.
• RE2: Representación indígena regional fortalecida para concertar agendas de incidencia en decisiones sobre la gestión de los recursos naturales en espacios clave de consulta e integración regional
• RE3: Instrumentos y normativas nacionales y regionales mejoradas para asegurar la participación y el ejercicio de derechos de las poblaciones indígenas Amazónicas en la gestión de los recursos naturales
Las principales actividades vinculadas con los resultados esperados son las siguientes:

1.2) Desarrollo e implementación de un programa de fortalecimiento a representantes y personal de las organizaciones indígenas en temas técnicos.
1.3) Construcción y fortalecimiento de espacios de concertación entre las organizaciones indígenas y otros actores clave

The project “Promoting the Rights of Indigenous Populations in the Management of the Natural Resources of the Amazon in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru”, in its short form “Regional Amazonian Indigenous Peoples” (RAIP) is the fruit of an agreement between CARE and the European Union. Its labors were initiated in January of 2010, taking into consideration three countries for intervention: (i) the department of Pando in Bolivia, (ii) the Subcumbios and Morona Santiago provinces in Ecuador; and, (iii) the departments of Amazonas and San Martín in Peru.
The General Objective of this initiative is to: “Contribute to the open exercise of the rights of indigenous populations in the management of natural resources and sustainable development in the Amazonian Region (of Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru), through greater and better democratic participation.”
The Specific Objective of the project that frames this consultancy is to” “Strengthen the participation and influence of Amazonian indigenous organizations in decision-making processes regarding public policies relative to the management of natural resources at a local, national, and regional level.”
In Ecuador, the project action is carried out in association with the Shushufindi Human Rights Committee; and directly benefits the following organizations of Ecuadorean Amazon indigenous peoples and nationalities:
