Hi,
Last year I bought a CAT tool called Sofittissimo but the problem remains as to how to use it optimally and get the best out of it.
It just looks so complicated... I don't have problems using any other software but this one is really confusing... and the user's manual doesn't seem to help.
This is one of the reasons why I don't use it much.
Is there anyone else who uses it?
Can anyone give me some tips about it?

According to Google you are indeed their only client and user.
It seems they don't even have a website.
I would recommend you to start with a free CAT tool like OmegaT or ForeignDesk, which are really used by a considerable number of translators.

Which of the Softissimo tools do you buy last year? Reverso Pro or Expert 5, Reverso Translator 10 (which was released this June), or one of the electronic dictionaries.

Are you sure the software you bought is a CAT tool and not a machine translation tool? According to the description on the sofittissimo website Reverso (I assume this is the name) is a machine translation software. You enter text in one block and I suppose choose some options and the software TRANSLATES the text for you in the target language.
Whereas a CAT tool (Trados, Transit, etc.) does NOT translate the text.

The box said Quick Translator and there was a lot of stuff in that CD and I've actually uploaded Power Translator Deluxe, Eurodico (whatever that is!!!) and Hugo. Please don't ask me what it all means!!!

There are other options but that's not much help as I don't know anyone who has ever used it in Delhi.
So... Anyways, it does help me solve the basic problem but the fact that I paid for something that I'm unable to use is a strange thing!!!

Many people could say this about their whole computer..
But seriously, one of the reasons why demo versions exist is, that you can use them to check whether you really could work with the software.
AND if you would spell "Softissimo" correctly (in the forum as well as in your profile) this might help you to find information about it, and to be found. (Although, as Jeff pointet out, it is better known under the name of Reverso.)

One of Jeff Allen's articles indicates that Reverso is an MT package with advanced PE (post-editing) features. These advanced features would seem complicated but they would be very necessary to use, I think.

Softissimo had sold the Power Translator suite of tools prior to 2000 (when I worked there).
A set of specs on the hardware requirements at the following page shows that Quick Translator is an old software package:

Rita, you mention that this has Power Translator Deluxe packaged into it. Can you please launch Power Translator and go to a menu in the application that provides info about the version. This is usually in an "About" menu. Please indicate which version of Power Translator it is.
I have listed all known software reviews of Power Translator in the relevant section at the Language Software Evaluation/Review site (http://www.geocities.com/langtecheval/). Based on the dates of publication of the software reviews, it is easy to trace when v6, v7, v8, and v9 were available publicly, and who owned/was distributing them. Globalink for v6, L&H for v7 and v8, LEC for v9. LEC is currently preparing v10 for release.
If this is a v9 package, then I suspect that Softissimo is reselling a newer Quick Translator package, yet it is not indicated on their web site.

Softissimo is the company name. They have sold a number of different products over the years. Reverso v3, v4 and v5 is a PROMT-engine-based product. The new Reverso Translator 10 package (distributed starting in June 2005) operates on different translation engines. indicated in the product brochure on the website.
To my knowledge, Power Translator was originally created by Globalink, which Softissimo distributed in the 1990s, up through v6. Due to various company Mergers & Acquisitions and technology sell-outs over the years, Power Translator was then owned by Lernout & Hauspie (v7 and v8) in the late 1990s to 2000, then a hole, and now LEC (v9 and onward).
