Translation - English Technology-based consumer durables (TCD) include home appliances (i.e. black goods, white goods and small appliances), digital electronics (i.e. digital camera, camcorder, MP3/4), IT and office products (i.e. notebook computer, desktop computer, printer), and communication products (i.e. mobile phone). Total China Estimation in Chart 1 included traditional shop retail volume and online retail volume.
According to GfK estimation, in 2012, the retail value growth of China TCD market was nearly 9% (YoY), slowing down from 17% in 2011. Communication products (i.e. mobile phone) led the market growth, followed by IT and small appliances, and black goods market performed stably, while white goods and electronics market was in slight decline.
With weak performance in 1H2012, China TCD retail market attracted attentions for its trend in 2H2012 undoubtedly. Market activity was recovering in 2H2012, from the clarification of new round of energy-saving subsidy policy details and models in Jun, 3D HD smart TV Olympic programs driven by retailers in Jul, to price war between e-business operators in Aug, early promotion of “National Day/Mid-Autumn Day” holidays in Sep, and the eye-catching “Nov 11” promotion. Offline and online retailers were rushing for market hotspots. Meanwhile, Overall market attention reached unprecedented height on the increasingly fierce competition of online market. 1. Online market was booming
Currently, Chinese online channels included online sales, TV shopping and catalog sales. In 2012, China online TCD market was exceptionally active, with unceasing news. TCD retailing market had been traditionally an offline market, so the fast development of its online channels in 2012 was eye-catching enough.

In 2012, camcorder online market growth slowed down under the influence of macroeconomic conditions and political factors. As the online market competition was heating, price war was escalating among e-business operators. Behind numerous promotions, disadvantages appeared. Although online market diverted a large share of offline market, camcorder online market growth will stabilize under the pressure of various internal and external factors.

Market demand narrowed, online market growth slowed down
According to GfK Total China Estimation, in 2012, China’s camcorder retail volume amounted to 520,000 sets (-18%, YoY), and retail value RMB2.1 billion (-22%, YoY). China’s camcorder market was in the decline for consecutive two years. As shown in GfK China 100 Cities’ Retail Tracking, in 2012, camcorder retail volume amounted to 390,000 sets (-23%, YoY), and retail value RMB1.6 billion (-27%, YoY). The fall of camcorder retail volume in big-medium cities was more obvious than that in national market.
Compared to significant decline of offline market, camcorder online market was growing. According to GfK China Online Market Tracking, in 2012, online market retail volume amounted to 115,000 sets ( 11%, YoY), however, the growth was much lower than that in 2011, due to overall market pressure and political events in 2H2012, as shown in Chart 1.
