Personal profile
I am a highly professional translator and interpreter with more than 10 years of experience. My language combinations are English to Chinese and Chinese to English (ZH-EN, EN-ZH). In addition to forging a successful career as a freelance translator, I also worked as in-house translator for the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission, which is regarded as an organisation that sets the highest standard for the translation profession. Further, I have been a European Commission accredited Chinese-English conference interpreter since 2010. Whilst I have expertise in many areas, I specialise in legal translation and interpreting as I am also a qualified lawyer in England and Wales. I work with Trados Studio 2017.
Experience
Translator and Interpreter
I have worked as a professional translator and interpreter since 2007. In addition to working as a freelance translator, I joined the Directorate General for Translation of the European Commission in 2012 and worked as an in-house translator/linguistic advisor where I translated EU and Chinese legislation, official documents, reports and other highly technical publications. I also advised trade investigators on anti-dumping, countervailing and fraud cases and provided language training for staff. In 2015, I returned to the UK to undertake training as a lawyer.
Further, I am a conference interpreter accredited by the Directorate-General of Interpretation of the European Commission and I am one of the first Chinese interpreters to have been awarded the accreditation. I have also worked for many other international organisations including the European Council, European Parliament and United Nations. I work on high-level international meetings addressing topics such as international trade, market access, intellectual property, energy and SME policies. I have interpreted for heads of states, senior government officials, and business leaders.
My clients in the public sector include the HM Court Services, UK Border Agency, regional police authorities, local councils and NHS trusts. My clients in the private sector include international conglomerates, technology companies, law firms, private companies and educational establishments based in the China, Europe, UK and US.
I have been an associate/member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists since 2007. In addition, I am a teaching fellow at the University of Bath for its MA in Interpreting and Translating course, which is considered as one of the most prestigious courses in the world for professional interpreters and translators.
