I got a problem on Internet which is called "About:blanc". It replaces my startpage and also does not let me use some sites.
I had to install and use Opera instead, but this does not work propper, so I would like to repair my Internet Explorer, that is, to get rid of this problem. It seems to be a virus or a trojan.
I looked on google and they are talking about a very sophisticated method.
Does anybode knows this "abou:blanc" and a solution for it?

Norton A.V, Apyboot and Ad-aware did not help.

Thank you,

As far as I know, after a long time the explorer "wears out", which is solved by an uninstallation and subsequent new installation.

about:blank Sep 1, 2004

I had the same problem, I tried Ad-aware 6.0, Spybot - Search & Destroy etc etc etc and the only software that helped me out was Avast Antivirus (http://www.avast.com).

Good luck

About blank; new installation is the only solution! Sep 1, 2004

I have had same problem many times. I tried all methods and even downloaded the latest version of Internet Explorer but that didn't work either. The virus/trogan captures the files in your registry and is not detectable with any Anti Virus softwares.

The only solution to this problem is reinstall your MS Office. Merely installing Internet Explorer will not help unless you remove the old Explorer.

Try the latest version of Spybot (it's excellent and it's free) Sep 1, 2004

I had the same problem. I downloaded Spybot (it’s free), and it solved the problem. The about:blank code changes other code that is deep in the computer’s registry. Spybot found it and eliminated it, but I lost “notepad.exe”. That’s not a big problem because there is another copy of notepad in your system files.

Try Spybot.

Try Spybot. You can download it at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Even if this doesn’t help you with the present problem, Spybot is still a great program to have. At least try it before re-installing the whole of MS Office. I didn’t have to do that.

If Spybot doesn’t work, doesn’t your computer allow you to do a “system restore” to a point just before your registry was captured by about:blank? If so, try that.

you've been "hijacked" (so-called Browser hijacking).

You can use a program called HijackThis, but PLEASE note that you need someone skilled in the field to look at the HijackThis log file and tell you what to do. Do NOT delete anything by yourself as it may DAMAGE your computer even further.

be careful with Internet explorer Sep 15, 2004

It is an open door to your system if you don't install all the latest updates of microsoft. (If they ever fixed it properly)

I am using mozilla and do not have any problems accessing any site. You can download it for free from: http://texturizer.net/firefox/download.html
