See more Dear Members, This is update number 12 posted on some of the progress being made in the changes to the ProZ.com job posting system. Previous updates are listed under the "Updates" section at http://www.proz.com/about/ipetition/changes What's new this week: More ProZ.com Wiki-related news. New article: Handling factual errors in a source text An article on specialization was added as a more in-depth look at one of the points touched on in Productivity for translators: an overview. Articles are needed on other points (in relation to productivity) mentioned in the overview, among them: - CAT tools
- Software / document management
- Term resources
- How to approach time-consuming projects
- Speech recognition software
- The use of machine translation (MT)
- Work environment and set up
- Administrative tasks
... and there are no doubt many other areas which affect or can improve translator productivity. Do you have information or experience to share on any of the above, or other topics associated with productivity? Share what you know! Resources like the Wiki only work when there is collaboration occurring. If anyone is willing to collaborate on this but uncertain of where to start, contact me and I'll be happy to help. Books on translation, by translators: Also under the "Education" tab is the Books section. New books have been added there, and more will be added soon. Have you written or collaborated on works which are related to translation or would benefit translators? Do you know another member who has? Drop a support request into the system with the details. Further upcoming improvements to the job system: Though recent updates have focused on the education and collaboration aspect (no small item-- imagine if translators began cooperating on a large scale, industry-wide, to protect their livelihood!), the job posting system itself has not been forgotten. Work here is still underway; expect further improvements to the job posting system in the coming weeks. Details on the changes to the job posting system, staff reaction, and member involvement and input can all be seen on the changes to be made to the ProZ.com job posting system pages. If you have not done so already, you may subscribe to the above pages to receive email notification when updates are made or new information is added. Thank you to ProZ.com members, who help keep initiatives like this going. Until next week! As you say, Jared, recent announcements have shown that there's a lot of useful work being done by both staff and users to build education resources into the site. I'd like to thank you all for providing this - it could indeed lead to great things. However, it seems to have a life of its own, separate from the job posting system. As we can expect fairly continual development in this area, would it be too much to ask to have a regular (monthly?) newsletter devoted to this education and collaboration aspect? Hi Sheila, Great feedback, as always. That's a possibility, though I would be careful about adding another newsletter per se. Maybe a forum where monthly updates and announcements of that particular type are posted, and those interested can track the topics (this would provide both the updates and the place to discuss them and provide feedback)? Just playing with ideas here. While the education and collaborative aspect is separate from strict changes to the job posting ... See more Hi Sheila, Great feedback, as always. Just playing with ideas here. While the education and collaborative aspect is separate from strict changes to the job posting system itself, it can be viewed as closely tied to the issue of rates and translator livelihood in general, and therefore related to the "changes to the job posting system", which, given the scope of http://www.proz.com/about/ipetition/changes include but go beyond the job system. First, I'm glad you're working on the site. Second, there is absolutely no news about the job posting system as of 02 July, 2010, either in the post (except for the 'continued work') or in the links; essentially there is nothing to update us on - either that or I'm really bad at searching. If the subject is not misleading, I don't know what is. Moderator?

Jared wrote: Maybe a forum where monthly updates and announcements of that particular type are posted As there is already a forum for the wiki, maybe it would be a good idea to post all wiki related information there, including the kind of updates you've posted here. I know that staff members have already been doing this to some extent. That way you might avoid the kind of confusion Krzysztof is referring to in his post. As opposed to a newsletter, I would use the forum for that purpose, to keep the whole system more streamlined and ensure that everyone has easy access to the information. | | | HCDixon United Kingdom Local time: 21:35 Spanish to English Posting and pricing issue | Jul 2, 2010 |
Just wondered what was happening with the issue related to posting entities who are undercutting professional pricing. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Update on changes made to the ProZ.com job posting system, 02 July, 2010 CafeTran Espresso | You've never met a CAT tool this clever!
