Poll: In which format do you receive most documents to be translated?

Maybe document type makes the difference May 8, 2008

In the book and article segment that we are in:

- 100 percent of books have been on paper
- more than 50 percent of articles on paper, others .DOC

We also think that "paper and paper-like" should have had its own line.

Word, followed by PDF, which generally ends up as a Word document anyway, followed by HTML/PHP, PPT and XLS/CSV.

The rest is DOC, the occasional PDF, the rare PPT and once in a blue moon a JPG.

I would say it's 50-50... and I really feel sorry for those colleauges who seem to be receiving mostly PDFs... I hope you charge more for those.

I selected Word, but on second thoughts, most of the jobs I receive are in a customer-specific format and are to be translated in the client's own CAT tool.

For Trados jobs, I still use Word a lot, but ttx files are definitely becoming more common.

Scanned PDFs are actually pretty easy (at least in my case, as the ones I get are generally variations on the same theme so I can normally use an old one as a template). What really takes time is glossy PDF brochures. And no, traditionally I haven't charged more for them, but I'm going to have to start soon as they're a pain in the backside and I seem to be getting them more often.

I would say Word, but lately all the documents tend to be scanned PDFs. Still Word is a leader...
word - 45%
pdf - 30%
paper - 15% (I also wonder why paper wasn't included)
others - 10%

Yep... it happens often to me... For that reason I have also AutoCad....
