Why not? Dec 23, 2006

Of course I will work if something needs to be completed. For me all the days are practically the same. If at all I don't work on New Year's Eve it is probably because I am having someone over in my place or I am in somebody's place (which would mean that I don't have my PC with me).

Why would I? Dec 23, 2006

I am not working in the fire department. Thus, new year's eve is for doing the fireworks for me

What would be the point? Dec 24, 2006

I work so that I can enjoy time with my family. If I work so much that I cannot be with my family, then what is the point of working?

As they say, "Money isn't everything". There is also a wise, Latin American saying: "Trabajar para vivir y no vivir para trabajar", which roughly translates to: "Work to live; don't live to work".

I don't mind Dec 24, 2006

I'll work any day, any time. Of course, that also gives me the privilege of kissing off any time I choose, which I do.

Sometimes I've partied on New Years Eve and others not. I spent last New Years on the road in a motel after having driven well over 1,000 kms. (650 miles) that day, and was snoring away by the time the New Year arrived.

Other times here at home on the border I might stay up long enough to hear the gunfire that greets the New Year, hopefully not directed

Other times here at home on the border I might stay up long enough to hear the gunfire that greets the New Year, hopefully not directed in an unsafe manner.

I've also spent many a New Years in Antofagasta, Chile watching the "quema de monos" in the streets, this year it's a no-brainer to figure out whose effigy will be most popular. This time I won't be there until a bit later, but then we'll party anyway.

So this year it will gunfire. And if there is some work to be done, well, why not?

Unlike other people in general, I don't like celebration in whatever form it may take.

I do like celebration Dec 24, 2006

but I like to celebrate what I want to celebrate and not necesarrily what HAS to be celebrated. I don't like having crackers falling down from balconies while I walk the street. And like Henry I can kiss off any time (well, almost) I choose, which I will do, probably.

Have a good year, at any rate.

A couple of hours, maybe Dec 24, 2006

What time does it become New Year's Eve, I wonder.

This year I'll be working till around 2 p.m. on the 31st. Then I'm helping a friend set up for a get-together he's having -- we've been banned from calling it a party, since that description would require him to buy more food and drink than he plans to.

Except for Sunday the 24th, I'm working a full day every day from now to the 30th, so I figure I can take off the night of the 31st and New Year's Day to relax with fr

family visits are not often as translation... Dec 24, 2006

This year, it is on the same day as a religious festival and therefore official holiday in our country and it shall be a chance for me to visit my family, who live in another city. For this reason I am not considering working.

However, last year I worked until 23:00 and then went out with friends.

Were the case the same this year, my criteria as to whether to work or not would be whether I had work to do or not!

Happy new year for all!

Just another day Dec 24, 2006

I like to party when I can, but should I miss the New Year's Eve festivities because of work, well, there's always the Islamic New Year, Chinese New Year, Klingon New Year...

Season's greetings to all of you!

Never Dec 24, 2006

I always take a holiday from Christmas to the 2nd of January so that I can catch up with friends and family. The idea of working on New Year's Eve really doesn't appeal to me, as I would be thinking about how my friends are out having a good time without me.

Depends Dec 24, 2006

I understand the question is not only aiming at this year'S New Year's Eve, but the day in general.

So if in the future my family was starving, I would work, of course.

But since we always take off the days between Christmas and 6 January (and we are not starving because we are working all the time for the rest of the year), it is almost unlikely to happen.

So - I wish you all a happy and successful New Year!

Michaela

In fact, I will work on new year's eve. Yet, I have managed to arrange for a special good time with my family. It is just a matter of being organised.

Season's greetings to all!

Maybe Dec 24, 2006

Well, I like to spend that time with my family... and of course, that's one time in the year when all of us wait for my father to make coffee (he makes the best coffee I've ever had)

But I'll work if I have to finish something urgent. In that case it'll be the first time as I've never worked on new year's eve.
