Physically, there are books stacked everywhere.
The computer files, however, are highly organized.

Messy Sep 10, 2008

But I always find my way through my own mess. I know exactly where my stuff is and I kinda hate it when someone tries to tidy up my desk without letting me know first. I get lost.

OF COURSE ! Sep 10, 2008

AS I SPEND PRACTICALLY ALL DAY, AND A GOOD PART OF THE NIGHT HERE, SITTING AT MY COMPUTERS, I HAVE TO BE TIDY.
I DON'T EAT OR DRINK AT THE DESK, I DON'T USE HARD COPY DICTIONARIES, (ALL ARE AVAILABLE ON INTERNET), I DON'T MAKE HARD COPIES OF ANY WORK FILES, NOT EVEN INVOICES.
I USE EXTERNAL HARD DISKS FOR SAVING FILES.

SO, YES SIR, I KEEP MY PLACE CLEAN.

NIGEL.

At least... Sep 10, 2008

...it is what I call tidy. I suspect there might be deviating opinions.

Depends... Sep 10, 2008

I always mean to be tidy and keep everything in its own place...But at the end of the day there's always a pretty big mess on my desk, especially when I'm working on a large project!!:P

No Sep 10, 2008

... but I read recently that the more untidy your work station, the more intelligent you are, so I don't feel too bad about it...

I like to start a new job with the workspace tidied up, but it gets more and more untidy as the work progresses.

Yes and no Sep 10, 2008

Immediately in front of me is tidy - keyboard front, dictionary left and mouse right - but beyond that things vary according to how much time I have on my hands (at the moment, none at all so it's a bit of a mess behind my screen - I can see camera, dirty glass, scraps of paper with notes, mints, biros, hairbrush, chocolate wrapper, two watches with dead batteries, dongles... it goes on). I've also cunningly hidden some mess underneath my dictionary so it's as if it doesn't exist as I only close... See more

I've also cunningly hidden some mess underneath my dictionary so it's as if it doesn't exist as I only close it's covers about once a month.

Unless it's a time of severe crisis however, my electronic files are always in order, otherwise I would be at a complete loss.

Kind of Sep 10, 2008

As others stated, computer files are tidy and organized. My desk is tidy or untidy, depending on the job/s I'm doing. It's not dirty, though, but computer & tape recorder cables are part of the "landscape" you'd usually see there.

Bird's nest Sep 10, 2008

Below and behind my desk there are too many cables which now more or less form a bird's nest. I'm just lucky that I don't have to find out which cable is for which equipment.
But on the other hand, the desk itself is mostly well tidied up and only has the "work related" books, papers, gadgets etc. It saves lots of time when you know where things are and don't have to start searching every time.

I'd post a photo... Sep 10, 2008

Trying to be tidy... Sep 10, 2008

... but if there's lots of work it is a bit like fighting a losing battle. I always catch up, though, in quieter periods, and my computer files are mostly very tidy.
