日本語 term

確認する方を「確認者X」、確認される方を 「確認依頼者Y」とする。

日本語 から 英語 技術/工学 コンピュータ: ソフトウェア Computer Security
確認する方を「確認者S」、確認される方を 「確認依頼者C」とする。

The party performing verification is “Verifier S”and the party being verified is “Verification Requestor C.”

Is this correct? I am unsure of which is which here. Who is verifying and who is asking for verification? The grammar and the labels don't seem to match.

The context is certificate verification for computer security.
Proposed translations (英語)
1 S=server, C=client

Thank you for your comments.

note: Note: this is a peer to peer architecture, so technically both are peers, rather than client/server.

Your confusion is quite natural. 確認 can be so ambiguous--check? make sure that?--that it should be banned.
The service is in charge of "confirming"; the client requests "confirming." But what does "confirming" mean in this context? (I assume validating security certificates of some sort.)

Re: Note
Even peer-to-peer networks have frequent recourse to the client/server model for individual transactions or services. It is quite common to avoid unnecessary duplication by annointing one member as server for the others--a firewall, for example.

Re: answer declined
Your guess is as good as mine. 確認 is such an amorphous (polymorphic?) word.
Something went wrong...
Comment: "What I was intending to ask was which of the two parties is confirming and which was being confirmed. "
