Hebrew term

Zahlad vs Nagmash

Good question Hebrew to English Other Military / Defense
Zahlad is an APC with both wheels and tracks (unlike a Nagmash which only has tracks). Are there more specific terms than wheeled/tracked APC?

זחל"ד = זחלי למחצה דיזל - Diesel operated half track

originally the term was זחל"ם = זלחי למחצה zahlam (half track)- but the motors were run on gasolene so to differentiate between gasolene and diesel the term Zahlad was applied
nagmash is the acronym for נושא גייסות משוריין - APC (amored personnel carrier)
zahlad is a form of apc

In reply to Baruchs remark
An APC can be wheeled not necessarily tracked. see following link

Diesel half-track vs. APC

The terms need not overlap. A half track need not be armored (particularly civilian ones), and an armored personnel carrier need not be tracked (the Soviet BTR and BRDM series come to mind).
Usually in IDF jargon Nagmash used to refer to the M-113 tracked APC, but not always, while Zachlad refers to the M-3 armored half track retrofitted with a diesel engine. The IDF has not procured new half tracks since the World War 2 vintage M3, but has manufactured and purchased many APCs since the M113, both tracked (Achzarit, Nakpadon) and wheeled (Fox/Shualit, Safari).
