It may perhaps have been the source for your answer as it does say "Computer program", but note that's purely as a subject term and elsewhere it uses the correct version "the program" in all cases.

One of the more common problems for non-native speakers is being unsure when an article is needed and when it isn't.

Software application? Could always say "translated a software application" and impress the unimpressed.

"software" is a non-countable noun, so "translated software" refers to any number of programs (one or more) and is the preferred option. If it was a single program (which the question "a software" seems to suggest) then the asker should say "a computer program". "a piece of software" is informal but perfectly OK in a CV.

"Translated program" isn't correct because "program" is countable so one has to say "translated a program" or "translated programs" depending on the number translated.

English is just odd :-)

"Translated software" does not specify that it was a single program, but makes it sound as if you translated several programs. "Piece of software" is too informal for a CV.
