Discussion

Martin Wenzel (asker) Jan 28, 2009:
Lyrics I have a problem with "accessible" music....but cannot think of anything better...

What's challenging music - the first thing that comes to my mind in connection with "challenging music" is hard to play....

The aspect of lyrics must not be forgotten here.

Maybe it needs to be challenging lyrics/music.

Ulrike Kraemer Jan 28, 2009:
Hallo, Martin. Fragen dieser Art bitte nicht als non-PRO klassifizieren, das sind eindeutig PRO-Fragen. Danke.
Martin Wenzel (asker) Jan 28, 2009:
, der spielerisch I have: who changes with the greatest ease between the roles of a great mind and a party animal by being either demanding or perfunctory
Susan Welsh Jan 28, 2009:

who switches playfully ... between demanding and light-hearted music

For Leichtigkeit, the first thing that came to mind was that dreadful American pop-radio phrase, "easy listening" (the rock music you hear at the dentist's office). Avoiding that (!), I think light-hearted gives the idea. I don't think "accessible" makes much sense. Challenging and accessible really don't give much of an idea of what the music sounds like. As you say, "challenging" sounds like it's hard to play. I think "demanding" gives the idea that it may be hard for the performer, but also is demanding on the listener.

easily/playfully shifts ... range from breezy to demanding

How about:
"...who easily/playfully shifts from philosopher to party animal, offering a range from breezy to demanding." (I realize I've switched the latter two attributes, but it works better for me, if it's not too free for you...)
