@Jonathan MacKerron Your suggestion sounds really good, thanks!
Jonathan MacKerron Mar 30, 2011:
subsided/subsiding also works, if that is indeed the case
E. D. (asker) Mar 30, 2011:
Yeah, me neither... I was thinking of: "subsided bleeding"?!
Jonathan MacKerron Mar 30, 2011:
lapsed/lapsing bleeding I'm not sure if the implication is that the bleeding has stopped, or has nearly stopped??

lapse in bleeding / lapsed bleeding

couple of options to start with. "lapse in bleeding" leaves the door open to a wider meaning, in case the bleeding has not stopped completely.
Peer comment(s):

disagree SJLD : not an English collocation - reading that as a physician I wouldn't know what was meant

Is it a fibrous, hemosiderin-stained membrane overlying the cerebral hemispheres, the site of an old bleed which organized and is now shunting blood away from the cortex?

... however, it does not exclude this strong possibility in D.R.’s case as this may be his initial presentation or he may have had minimal rectal bleeding in the past that went unrecognized.
