German term
1:1 Austausch
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Mechanics / Mech Engineering
Hi folks.
Working on a website for the manufacturer of mechanical systems. This bullet point list is showing the benefits for the customer of one of their assemblies.
So then this term comes up. I know what it means, I want to know what you would call it in English. They are saying that you can pull out the defective unit and install their new improved unit using the same connectors, the same screw holes, everything is identical, except perhaps for what goes on inside the box. So, all interfaces (electrical, mechanical, etc.) as the same.
What do we say to convey this in English?
Simple swap?
Identical replacement?
I cannot find anything in English with '1:1' so if you have some native English website that uses it, I urge you to share.
All contributions gratefully accepted.

1:1 replacement
"one to one"
Does that not do it?

Though I think "one for one" might be better

Comment: "I have to bow to the wisdom of the net. I want to thank all the contributors, it started a bigger discussion than I thought it would.
I did include a note to the customer with all the other suggestions and my problem with the original.
Once again, thanks to all."

: True, true. I would modify it, though, on a website - 100%, perfectly, 1 to 1, etc...
