Hintergründigkeit

This is from a head-wrecking market research text. Can anyone suggest a decent translation for "Hintergründigkeit" and/or "hintergründig"?

Many thanks

For Hildegard Hi Hildegard - this is meant in a negative sense (Kehrseite), so "subtle" wouldn't do the trick here.
